우리는 널빤지의 물성과 구조적 개념을 공간에 적용하는 것을 시도하였습니다. 먼저 필요한 구조들을 세우고, 카페로서 기능을 수행하기 위해 필요한 널빤지와 같은 판재가 그 위로 결합되어 구성되는 방식으로 공간을 설계하였습니다.
We sought to translate the material qualities and structural logic of planks into the spatial design. By first establishing the essential framework and then integrating board-like elements akin to the planks of a bridge to fulfill the functional requirements of a cafe, we structured the space through a process of layered assembly.
사이트는 백화점 지하매장이 가진 특성상 다양한 업종이 뒤섞여 다채롭고 역동적인 환경을 이루고 있었습니다. 우리는 이와 대비되는, 잠시 머물러 여유를 느낄 수 있는 시각적·정서적 편안함을 제공하는 공간을 만들고자 했습니다. 잘라내고, 남기고, 회전시키는 방식으로 판재를 활용하여 동선과 시선의 균형을 조정하고, 이를 통해 파티션·MD·테이블·간판 등의 요소를 구성했습니다.
The basement floor of the department store is inherently dynamic, with a diverse mix of categories creating a highly varied and energetic atmosphere. In contrast to this environment, our goal was to introduce a space that offers visual and emotional comfort a place where visitors can pause and feel at ease. By cutting, preserving, and rotating planar elements, we recalibrated both circulation and sightlines, using this approach to shape key components such as partitions, merchandising displays, tables, and signage.
이러한 구조와 연결은 단순한 물리적 경계를 넘어 사람과 사람을 이어주고, 시선과 동선을 유기적으로 연결하는 공간의 언어가 됩니다. 널빤지를 깔아 길을 만들었던 과거 판교의 개념이 재해석 되어 백화점의 다양한 매장의 속에서 새로운 길을 연결해주는 편안한 공간으로 구현되기를 기대합니다.
Such structures and connections go beyond simple physical boundaries, becoming a spatial language that links people, and organically connects sightlines and movement. The concept of Pangyo, where wooden planks were once laid to form pathways, has been reinterpreted to create a comfortable space within the department store, one that we hope will serve as a new path connecting its diverse stores.
