Blue Bottle Jeju

Song Dang-ri, the place that Blue Bottle is located, is a calm and little neighbourhood that has a variety of lovely stone walls. And it is the place where can see beautiful scene of ‘Oreums’ [volcanic cone]

블루보틀이 위치한 송당리는 제주 동쪽 중산간에 위치해 있으며 골목길 담벼락 사이로  크고작은 오름들이 보이는 한적한 동네이다.

Every alleys in Jeju Island has ‘Jung-Nang’ in the end of the road, and also has ‘Pong-Nang’  in the centre of the alley ways, which is a square where all neighbours can meet and communicate. ‘Pong-Nang’ is generally located in the centre of a village in Jeju, it is a prominent place where villagers can communicate with each other, and it sometimes provides shelter for travelers.

여러 갈래로 뻗어있는 제주의 골목길 끝에는 집의 입구역할을 하는 “정낭”이  있으며 골목길의 중심부 에는 마을사람들의 만남의 광장인 “퐁낭” 이라는 공간이 있다.
“퐁낭” 은 마을의 중심에위치하고 있으며 마을 사람들간의 중요한 교류의 장 이자 누구나 길을걷다가 잠시 쉬어갈 수 있는 쉼터의 의미를 갖는다.

Jung-Nang represents Jeju islands ‘Sam-Mu’(삼무,三無) which is a traditional philosophy that means there are no thieves or beggars in our neighbourhood, therefore no front gate.’ It also has a strong context of ‘Everyone is welcome’. Intrigued by Jeju’s iconic object: ‘Jung-Nang’, it’s structural point is reinterpreted and applied to the entire space and furniture design of Blue Bottle. And little ‘Pong-Nangs’ in the cafe floor can provide not only a good rest, but also make efficient customers’ traffic control possible.

정낭은 대문, 도둑, 거지가 없다는 옛 제주인의 삼무(三無)정신을 상징한다.제주의 정낭은 혼저옵서예’ (누구나 환영한다) 라는 의미를 품고있기도 하다. 제주의 상징적인 조형물인 “정낭” 을 이루는 구조적인 형태를 모티브로 공간과 가구를 디자인 하였으며, 공간 곳곳에 고객들의 동선을 유도하며 트래픽을 최소화 하고 잠시 머물며 쉬어 갈 수 있는 “퐁낭”의 개념을 만들었다.

Main materials for the floor are produced by using glass bottle wastes collected from the sea shores in Jeju island, and other sustainable construction materials are widely applied as well.

친환경 건축자재와 제주 바다에서 수거된 유리병들을 배합한 소재가 공간과 가구의 메인 소재로 활용되었다.
